According to a topic posted by Miranda MacDonald on RedBoard, the official blog of Rogers Communications network operator, Samsung Captivate is about to arrive on the Canadian carrier in the following weeks. Captivate is the AT&T version of the highly-acclaimed Samsung Galaxy S smartphone and will add to Roger's Android and Social View lineup. The Captivate's launch in Canada might be closer than expected as the Korean manufacturer already thrown a party last night where Metric, one of the most successful indie bands in Canada performed live. This is an excellent move by Rogers, who is now refreshes its smartphone lineup with one of the best selling devices on the market. The question is how come they managed to keep the Captivate name, which it might be exclusively owned by AT&T (or not). For those out of the loop, Samsung Captivate is powered by an ARM Cortex A8 1GHz processor and runs Android OS 2.1 (Eclair). It boasts a 4.0-inches Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors (480 x 800 pixels resolution), TouchWiz 3.0 UI, multi-touch input method, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, touch-sensitive controls, proximity sensor for auto turn-off, Swype text input. Other key features of the smartphone include: HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA 5.76 Mbps, 16GB internal memory and 512 MB RAM, microSD slot for memory card (up to 32GB), 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and video recording capabilities (720p@30fps), GPS with A-GPS support, Digital compass, Bluetooth 3.0, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n; DLNA. There are no information regarding the release data or pricing of the Captivate, but the poster of the topic “promised” more in info in the coming weeks. If nothing goes wrong we might even see it launch by the end of August, or at the beginning of this fall, when people are usually coming back from their holidays. | |
