Motorola DROID 2 Price Leaks on Best Buy

It seems that the long wait is almost over for fans of Motorola smartphones, as more and more infos regarding DROID 2 are surfacing on the Internet. Rumored to be launched on August 12 on Verizon Wireless operator, DROID 2 hasn't been confirmed yet by none of the main actors of the launch, Motorola and Verizon. But who needs official announcements when we already have all the info we need.

After its spec sheet was leaked last week, the price of the smartphone surfaced this weekend. Thanks to a fan of the brand who noticed that a local Best Buy store from North Carolina is already showing test dummies of the device together with the price tag. As you can see from the pictures, Motorola DROID 2 will be sold for $199.99 with a two-year contract or $599.99 without a plan.

The price involving a two-year contract seems to be the same deal as the original DROID, which by the way is out of stock now on Verizon. Unfortunately, the price for the unlocked version is very high, but that's the price of freedom for those that already have contracts with other carriers.

Motorola DROID 2 is expected to come with the latest Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system, which will most likely offer a greater performance than the original DROID, that packed the 2.1 version. Other highlights of the smartphone, that surfaced a little while ago from a Verizon flyer include: 8GB of on-board memory, microSD memory card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 8GB card included).

Further, DROID 2 is supposed to be powered by a 1 Ghz OMAP processor with dedicated GPU. It will also feature Wi-Fi, a 5-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and DVD quality video capture, a 3.7-inch touchscreen display with multi-touch capabilities, a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard, and 3G capabilities.
